How the MSC Buddy System Works

You know someone who should be racing.

Maybe it's your girlfriend who sends it harder than half the guys on your group ride. Maybe it's the woman on your team who's been eyeing the bike park but hasn't committed to a race. Maybe it's your daughter who just aged into juniors and is ready to find out what she's made of.

She's out there. She just hasn't had a reason to show up yet.

That's what the Buddy System is for.

Here's how it works

When you register for any MSC race on BikeReg, you'll see an option to bring a buddy — a woman who's never raced the Mountain States Cup before. Click on “Yes” and we’ll send you an email with a link to a form to fill out. After you’ve filled it out, your buddy gets sent a coupon code she can use on BikeReg. When she registers, her entry is free. So make sure you sign up and fill in the form before she signs up for the race!

She can enter any category except Pro. And you don't have to be a woman to bring someone. Boyfriends, dads, teammates, coworkers, riding buddies — anyone who's registered for an MSC race can be a buddy.

The Fox Fork Raffle

Every person who brings a buddy is automatically entered into a Fox fork raffle at that event. One winner per race, four races in the series. Bring someone to Angel Fire, you're in the draw. Bring someone to Purgatory, you're in again. Every race you bring a new rider, you get another shot.

Why we built this

The biggest barrier to a first race isn't fitness or skill — it's showing up alone to something you've never done before. The whole point of the MSC is turning riders into racers, and the Buddy System is how we're bridging that gap: someone she knows is already going, and the entry fee is covered.

We want women's fields at MSC to grow from under 20% to over 30% in the next few years. That doesn't happen through marketing campaigns. It happens because real people bring real people. One conversation, one coupon code, one race weekend — and she's a racer.

How to actually do it

1. Head to BikeReg and register for your MSC race.
2. During registration, select the option to bring a buddy.
3. You'll get an email with a link to the form.
4. Fill the form out and she’ll get sent her coupon code.
5. She registers using the code. Entry: free.
6. Show up. Ride. She becomes a racer. You might win a fork.

FAQ

• Who can be a buddy? Any woman who has never raced an MSC event before.
• Who can bring one? Anyone — male or female — who is registered for that same MSC race.
• What categories can she enter? Any category except Pro.
• How does she register? With the coupon code you send her. It covers her full entry fee.
• What about the raffle? You're automatically entered when your buddy registers. One Fox fork given away per race. Your entry will only count if your buddy actually starts her race run.
• Can I bring more than one person? Across different races, absolutely. One buddy per race per person.
